Bridgestone recently announced that it has decided to invest an additional BRL 270 million to further expand the production capacity
of its tire plant in the northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia.
After the completion of the capacity expansion project, the Bahia plant will increase its production capacity for passenger car and light truck tires by four percent
by the end of 2024.
Prior to this, Bridgestone announced an investment of BRL 700 million in July 2021 to gradually expand the production capacity of the Bahia plant starting in the current quarter of the
year.
The two investments total BRL
970 million.
Previously, Bridgestone planned to bring the annual production capacity of the Bahia plant to 4.
3 million tires
by 2024.
With additional investment, the current annual production capacity has been increased to 5 million tires
.
In addition, Bridgestone plans to increase sales
of large-size tires for sport utility vehicles and light-duty tires for electric vehicles in North and Latin America.
In order to maintain the stability of supply channels, the company said that it will strengthen local production organization and ensure supply, and strive to increase the proportion of local production and consumption from the current 90% to 95%.
To this end, Bridgestone has decided
to make additional investments to expand tire production capacity at its plant in Brazil.
