Brazil's state-owned energy research company EPE recently announced that it has registered 66,862 MW of renewable energy projects
for two consecutive auctions held on June 25, 2021.
It is understood that the A-3 and A-4 tenders held in June will sign contracts for wind, solar, hydroelectric and biomass power generation projects
.
Overall, there will be 1,841 energy projects competing for contracts
.
Specifically, the A-3 and A-4 tenders will award 1,050 solar projects totaling 41,852 MW, 700 wind projects totaling 22,667 MW, 30 biomass projects totaling 1,358 MW, and 61 hydropower projects totaling 985 MW
.
The winning bidder will receive a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with a term of 30 years for hydroelectric power plants (HPP), 25 years for biomass energy and 20 years
for wind and solar projects.
The Brazilian government has previously said that the winning bidder of the A-3 round of tenders will start supplying electricity on January 1, 2024, and the successful bidder of the A-4 round of tenders will start supplying electricity
on January 1, 2025.
