Foreign media February 17 news: Brazilian corn prices stabilized in the week to February 11 as the second-season corn planting progressed rapidly and high prices kept buyers on the sidelines .
Brazil's state-owned Commodities Supply Company (CONAB) said corn prices are likely to remain stable in the next few days as the second crop will be planted within an ideal window, boosting hopes for a larger crop this year .

The pace of second crop planting in Brazil's main producing areas has remained strong over the past few days
    .
As of February 12, corn planting progress reached 35.
    1%, much higher than 10.
    2% a year earlier
    .
Second-crop corn accounts for 92 percent of the projected total corn area in 2021/22
    .
The 2021/22 corn crop will be available from February 2022 to January 2023
    .

As farmers focus on harvesting soybeans, corn prices remain stable
    .
Brazilian corn prices are currently higher than normal, due to dry weather in southern Brazil and a possible decline in first-season corn production
    .

Brazil's first corn crop is planted from September to December and harvested from February to May the following year, while the second corn crop is planted from February to March and harvested from June to July
    .
From February to April, the weather forecast for the main corn producing areas of the second crop is mixed, which is also a key growing period for the second crop, especially considering the reduced production of the first crop and the low beginning stocks due to drought
    .

According to Brazil's National Meteorological Service (INMET), several climate models suggest that rainfall is likely to be normal or above average for almost the entire Midwest, with the exception of central and western Mato Grosso do Sul state, which is between February and September.
Rainfall during April is likely to be slightly below average
    .
Mato Grosso do Sul is the fourth largest corn producing region in Brazil
    .
Rainfall in southern Brazil is likely to be near-average or below-average due to La Niña, INMET said
    .
Low rainfall may result in lower soil moisture levels in the southern regions, mainly in the western states of Parana and Santa Catarina
    .
Parana is the second largest corn producing region in Brazil
    .
Meanwhile, northern Brazil is likely to remain wet this week, with the heaviest rains in Mato Grosso, Goias and Minas Gerais
    .
Rainy weather will slightly slow soybean harvesting and second-season corn planting, Maxar Weather said
