Be a pioneer in the field of artificial pancreas in China

Just after the Lantern Festival, Professor Wang Youqing of the School of Electrical and Automation Engineering of Shandong University of Science and Technology finished an academic conference in Beijing and hurried back to Qingdao.

Why is it so urgent? Wang Youqing told reporters that some companies have already expressed their willingness to cooperate with his "learning artificial pancreas".

"There are about 100 million diabetic patients in China, and the'learning artificial pancreas' will be on the market as soon as possible, and the patients will be able to solve their pain and troubles as soon as possible.

Returning to China: "I want to be a pioneer even more"

Wang Youqing, born in 1981, comes from a peasant family in Shandong.

"Artificial pancreas, also called closed-loop insulin pump system, is an electronic biochemical instrument system composed of an insulin pump, continuous blood glucose monitoring device and a microcomputer.

While studying abroad, Wang Youqing began to think about how to establish a more optimized dynamic blood glucose control program during the research process.

Therefore, Wang Youqing proposed the "learning artificial pancreas" design plan, which is the first time in the world.

"Returning to China is because of a strong sense of identity and belonging to the motherland.

Breakthrough: "Learning artificial pancreas" is widely recognized

Abandoning foreign first-class experimental conditions and generous treatment and starting from scratch, Wang Youqing's pioneering road in the domestic artificial pancreas field is destined to not be smooth.

"At that time, most domestic doctors didn't know much about artificial pancreas, and I couldn't find a partner at all at the beginning.

One day in June 2010, Li Guangwei, deputy director of the Endocrinology Society of the Chinese Medical Association and an endocrinologist at the Beijing China-Japan Friendship Hospital, walked into the outpatient room of a young "patient".

"Calling an expert to talk about cooperation is also a desperate move.

In order to enhance scientific research strength, Wang Youqing applied for the European Diabetes Research Foundation project and received support.

"Compared with countries with relatively mature technology in the world, our'learning artificial pancreas' is characterized by its'learning ability', which can use regular historical information to continuously modify control strategies and improve the dynamic control of patients' blood sugar.

Wang Youqing's academic achievements have had a great influence both at home and abroad.

Educating people: "Practice and innovation are at the same time" to do scientific research

Bold innovation in scientific research, Wang Youqing also devoted a lot of effort to teaching.

Every year when new graduate students enroll, Wang Youqing will give them a lecture on "Introduction to Scientific Research", combining his own experience to teach scientific research methods, precautions, and academic ethics.
More importantly, in the introductory lecture, he will pass on the academic philosophy of "prudent and innovative, freedom and rigor coexist" to the students.

"To do scientific research, you must first have a comprehensive and systematic understanding of the things you are researching, and you must know where things come from and where they go, so that you can be steadfast; only on the basis of understanding and familiarity can you go further and go with a targeted approach.
Questioning and innovating, so that you will not make detours and do not useless work.
" Wang Youqing warned his students.

It's not satisfying to listen to it once.
Later every year when freshmen enroll, I have to listen to it again with the freshmen.
His rigorous and flexible scientific research methods are very helpful to my subsequent work.
