BASF announced today that it will expand production of two specialty pyrrolidones, N-hydroxyethyl-2-pyrrolidone (HEP) and N-octyl-2-pyrrolidone, at its integrated site in Geismar, Louisiana.

"Our customers expect continued growth in the ink, automotive and agricultural markets, and demand will increase," said Erika Peterman, Senior Vice President, Chemical Intermediates, North America

HEP is commonly used in the production of crop protection agents and solvents; NOP is used in the production of solvents and low-foaming surfactants such as detergents and wetting agents
