In 2018, Australia's investment in clean energy and energy storage projects has exceeded US$20 billion, and the cumulative scale of projects under construction has exceeded 14.
6 GW, and 80 projects under construction will provide 13,000 direct jobs
.
Australia's Clean Energy Council released new figures on Tuesday showing the value of new renewable energy projects currently under construction across the country at 14.
6 GW, making 2018 a record year for the country's clean energy sector and more than
doubling its investment.
According to the Clean Energy Council, more than 2 million Australian households now own solar panels and more than 80 wind and solar farms are already under construction or about to start construction
.
"The total value of ongoing projects is twice as high as it was at the end of last year," the Clean Energy Council said, "In addition, wind and solar projects completed in 2018 totaled $6 billion, bringing the total investment in projects completed or under way this year to more than $26 billion
.
" ”
More than 80 projects are currently under construction that will provide more than $20 billion in investment and 13,000 direct jobs
.
According to the Clean Energy Council, three Australian states lead in their share of $20 billion worth of new renewable energy projects and investments: Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales
.
Of this, Northern Queensland benefited from investments worth US$6.
9 billion, creating more than 4,500 direct jobs and 5,640 megawatts (MW) of new renewable energy
.
At the other end of the country, Victoria received 5?? The $200 million clean energy investment created more than 3,800 direct jobs and 3,400 MW of new capacity
.
New South Wales, located on the east coast of the country, invested $4.
3 billion, creating more than 2,100 direct jobs and 3,500 megawatts of new clean energy
.
However, despite the current fiscal and employment windfall from the current clean energy boom, the multi-billion dollar boom could come to a dramatic halt
if Australia's post-2020 energy policy debate goes unattended and unresolved.
"While subsidies are no longer needed for new investments, long-term energy policy certainty is needed," said Chairman Kane Thornton, "and 2019 is fast approaching, and there may be uncertainty
about bipartisan energy and climate policy.
" States and territories have stepped in to fill the void with their own initiatives to encourage jobs and investment in new clean energy
.
But there is still a clear vacuum
in Australia's federal energy policy.
