Humor is the lubricant of a happy life, but whether humor can be understood or not is influenced by culture
.
Hou Yubo's research group from the School of Psychology and Cognitive Sciences, Peking University, uses the theory of differential order to reveal the internal mechanism of Chinese humor
The study uses four experiments to explore the mechanism by which social distance and culture influence people's appreciation, sharing and creation of humor based on differential pattern
.
The study found that Chinese appreciate, share, and create humor at a higher level in far social distancing situations than in near social distancing situations, but this difference does not exist in Americans
The first author Cao Yi and the third author Dong Zhiwen are doctoral students in Hou Yubo's research group.
Hou Yubo and Professor Ji Lijun from Queen's College of Canada are the co-corresponding authors of this paper
