Recently, Wisconsin Energy Company, a subsidiary of Alliant Energy, has proposed a plan
to build a wind power project to the Wisconsin Public Service Commission.
When completed, the project will begin reducing energy costs
for Wisconsin customers in 2020.
It is understood that the proposed project will be located in northern Iowa, and wind energy resources have been strong
.
President of Alliant Energy said, "We are providing customers with more renewable energy to keep interest rates competitive and help drive economic development
in our communities.
Wind energy continues to play an important role in diversifying our energy mix and transforming us into a clean energy future
.
”
Customers will directly benefit from fuel-free renewable energy
that provides long-term cost stability.
The cost of new wind power projects has dropped
significantly over the past few years.
This is mainly the result of
continuous technological advances that have improved turbine efficiency.
The project will add 150 megawatts of wind energy, enough to power
another 70,000 homes.
Through Alliant Energy's ownership of three wind farms, the company's Wisconsin customers are already benefiting
from low-cost wind.
Alliant Energy signed a contract with Invenergy to purchase the project
after development is complete.
Invenergy is the largest privately held renewable energy company
in North America.
The PSCW is expected to make a decision
in early 2019.
If approved, construction
is expected to begin in summer 2019.
The project will not affect the company's recently announced plans
to keep its benchmark interest rate flat through 2020.
Including this project, Alliant Energy plans to invest about $2 billion in cost-competitive wind energy
in Iowa and Wisconsin by the end of 2020, according to sources.
These major investments are helping the company achieve its goal
of reducing CO2 emissions by 40% from 2005 levels by 2030.
