According to reports, the 770-kilometer-long submarine cable system will be built by Algerie Telecom in cooperation with IslaLink and Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN), with a maximum upgradeable capacity of 40Tbps
.
The Algerian government provided $30 million for
the project.
Houda Imane Faraoun said that the commissioning of the project will help all Algerians to improve the quality of Internet connections and improve Internet services
in the country.
According to reports, in addition to completing the connection with Spain, Algeria also announced the establishment of a cross-border optical fiber network connection with Mauritania, and after completing the deployment of a 440-kilometer land optical fiber path across the southern border of Algeria and Niger last month, the construction of an optical fiber network connecting Mauritania has now started, about 75 kilometers
.
Earlier this year, Algeria also launched a 3,634 km Medex cable to the international data market via an interconnection with TE North/TGN-Eurasia/SEACOM/Alexandros, passing through Abu Tarat, Egypt, Marseille, France, Cyprus and Annaba
in Albania.
