Recently, Aker Solutions said it has formed an alliance with floating wind technology company Principle to bring offshore oil and gas field engineering expertise to the fast-growing renewable energy market
.
Aker Solutions has extensive experience in developing offshore oil and gas fields, particularly in floating facilities
.
The partnership will help expand the market
by using Principle Power's technology as an innovative floating foundation for offshore wind turbines, called WindFloat.
The CEO of Aker Solutions revealed, "We see significant opportunities
in the transition to a low-carbon future where demand is growing for offshore floating wind.
Combining our capabilities with Principle Power's technology will help advance floating solutions, costs and risks for offshore wind and drive further growth
in the industry.
" ”
Following the 2015 Paris Agreement, a global push to use fuels with lower carbon emissions to reduce CO2 as a way to combat climate change, the installed offshore wind capacity of wind power is expected to more than
double by 2022 compared to 2016.
This is closely linked
to Aker Solutions' drive for sustainable energy solutions.
The company has commercially available carbon capture and storage technology, which is an important tool
to help meet global emissions targets.
It also has a leading capacity for natural gas, an energy source that complements the global shift to
more renewable energy.
The WindFloat foundation allows wind turbines to be placed on offshore sites with the richest wind resources, regardless of
water depth.
The installation, operation and maintenance of the WindFloat foundation reduces cost risk and environmental impact
compared to competing technologies.
Aker Solutions initially bought a 5 percent stake in Principle Power and plans to increase that to 10 percent
by the end of the year.
It can further increase ownership
at a later stage.
The companies did not disclose the specific value of
the deal.
