As the representative of international chemical companies in China, the International Association of Chemical Manufacturers (AICM) is committed to promoting the harmonious and sustainable development of China's chemical industry
.
Faced with the energy transition and the "dual carbon" goal, how can chemical companies deal with the current challenges and achieve long-term development? What kind of support can multinational companies provide? Recently, a reporter from China Chemical Industry News interviewed the relevant person in charge of AICM
Reporter: The power shortage and the “dual control” of energy consumption that occurred some time ago have any impact and challenges on AICM and its member companies as one of the representatives of the real industry?
AICM: Power shortage and "dual control" of energy consumption have indeed affected the production, operation and economy of AICM member companies to varying degrees
.
The products and corresponding technical services of AICM members are uninterrupted, difficult to replace and in great demand
Reporter: How does AICM view these previous situations and the policy of "double control" of energy consumption?
AICM: Currently 70% of China's total power generation comes from thermal power plants
.
This time, the urgent power supply caused by factors such as high coal power prices reflects that the current power system is still highly dependent on coal power, and it is urgent to increase the proportion of other alternative energy sources
Reporter: In response to these challenges, the Central Economic Work Conference clearly stated that it is necessary to correctly understand and grasp the carbon neutrality
.
What suggestions and plans does AICM have for this?
AICM: We firmly support a series of relevant policy deployments such as "correctly understanding and grasping the carbon neutrality" proposed by the Central Economic Work Conference
.
In response to the recent power shortage, we are also concerned that the relevant departments have taken a series of measures, such as marketization of coal and electricity prices or the implementation of tiered electricity prices, etc.
Based on the importance of the normal operation of chemical enterprises and the possible safety and economic losses caused by irregular power outages, we suggest that the orderly allocation of electricity should ensure the most basic operational requirements of chemical production enterprises, and we hope that local governments will have transparent power limits.
Policy or system, and strengthen prior communication, so that enterprises can make predictions and take countermeasures in advance, avoid power outages and power failure measures without adequate communication and preparation, and ensure the safe production and normal operation of member enterprises
.
Reporter: How do AICM and member companies view China's "dual carbon" goal?
AICM: AICM and its member companies attach great importance to the Chinese market, have firm confidence in a stable legal and policy environment and a friendly business environment, and are actively committed to conducting dialogue and cooperation with Chinese governments at all levels
.
At present, AICM member companies have made energy conservation and carbon reduction an important part of their corporate strategies.
With the support of the government and policies, AICM will, as always, push its member companies to formulate carbon emission reduction goals and strategies, and jointly move towards carbon neutrality
.
AICM member companies will also continue to take various carbon emission reduction measures to help China achieve its "dual carbon" goals, such as using renewable energy, improving technological processes, using environmentally friendly products, and carbon offsets
