British water utility United Utilities is using artificial intelligence (AI) technology that is expected to reduce electricity costs by 10%
per year.
AI technology will help UK water utilities reduce electricity costs by 10% a year
Over the next 12 months, approximately 8 MW of pumps, engines and biogas engines from the company's eight plants will be connected
to AI technology provided by Open Energi.
It will enable a flexible approach to energy management, continuously monitoring electricity demand and generation everywhere to reduce costs and increase renewable autonomous generation
.
Fully automated technology is expected to change demand for United Utilities as it consumes more during periods of high generation and less during expensive peak times and reacts to
grid fluctuations.
Andy Pennick, Energy Manager at United Utilities, said: "We are committed to providing safe, cost-effective and sustainable water and wastewater services
to our customers.
By bringing all our energy disciplines together, we can focus on future energy strategies and provide low-carbon and secure energy
at the lowest cost.
