On July 23, the reporter learned from the People's Hospital of Wuhan University that the team of Professor Yu Honggang of the hospital adopted artificial intelligence-assisted endoscopy, which can reduce the missed detection rate of gastric tumors by nearly 80%
Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in the world, especially in East Asia
Endoscopy is the recommended strategy for the detection of early gastric cancer and precancerous lesions
Previously, ENDOANGEL, an AI monitoring system developed by the team led by Yu Honggang, has a gastric early cancer detection module.
Then the Yu Honggang team continued to adjust and improve the model to better identify gastric tumors, and renamed the upgraded system as Endoscopic Elf-Lesion Detection (ENDOANGEL-LD)
Comparing the characteristics of missed gastric tumors, the research team also found that AI-assisted examinations had significantly lower missed detection rates for gastric antrum or pyloric tumors, and were less likely to miss gastric tumors with a size of less than or equal to 10 mm
Based on these findings, the paper pointed out that Endoscopic Wizard can effectively reduce the missed detection rate of gastric tumors without increasing the examination time, while minimizing unnecessary biopsies, and is expected to improve the detection rate of gastric tumors
