Speaking at the World Economic Forum event in Hanoi, Sisuri said: "The impact of the July events is a factor
that we carefully consider in terms of hydropower production.
”
Laos will continue to study other options for renewable and clean energy generation, such as solar panels and wind turbines
.
There are reports that Laos' hydropower potential could become the "battery of Southeast Asia"
by selling electricity to neighboring countries.
In 2017, Laos had 46 hydropower stations, 54 of which were planned or under construction, and foreign electricity sales accounted for about
30% of its exports.
But Sissouli said he disagreed with the "battery" label
.
"Our capacity to develop electricity in Laos is very limited
compared to the needs of neighboring countries.
