Materials manufacturer AdvanSix Inc.
has launched 100 percent post-industrial recycled grades of its Aegis brand nylon 6 resin and Capran brand biaxially oriented nylon film
.
The new product offers customers a way to do so without compromising performance by using monomer materials recycled from waste streams, officials at AdvanSix, Parsippany, NJ, said in a release.
sustainability goals
.
Sarah Waller, vice president of Nylon Solutions, said: "We are all moving towards a more sustainable future
.
Our customers - and their customers - are increasingly focused on meeting their sustainability goals
.
"
Waller added: “AdvanSix is delighted to work with our customers to support them by providing innovative PIR solutions they can trust to incorporate recycled material ingredients into their production processes and products, minimising their environmental impact journey
.
"
Company officials say the company's 100% PIR grades have the same processability as AdvanSix standard grades and meet food contact standards, making them ideal for applications with stringent performance requirements or difficult to recycle
.
Such applications include food and medical packaging requiring FDA approval, bag-in-box beverage packaging, and other food contact compliant applications
.
These new materials can also be used in light-colored carpets and other products with color or odor pollution specifications
.
Officials added that using AdvanSix's PIR solution in the production process does not require customers to re-qualify new grades
.
After nylon polymerization, AdvanSix recovers unreacted caprolactam feedstock from waste liquor and recycles it into the production process
.
Distribute recycled materials into new recycled resins and films using industry-accepted mass balance methods
.
Earlier this year, AdvanSix was awarded a Platinum rating for corporate social responsibility by EcoVadis, which tracks more than 200 procurement categories in 190 countries
.
In the first half of 2021, AdvanSix reported sales of $814.
1 million, an increase of 52% compared to the same period in 2020
.
The company's first-half profit of $72.
3 million more than tripled compared to the same period in 2020
.
In the second quarter, nylon and caprolactam accounted for nearly 40% of AdvanSix's sales
