Sinochem News reported on August 10 that the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has cooperated with Fertiglobe to sell blue ammonia to Idemitsu Japan for use in its refining and petrochemical business
.
The sale builds on the recently announced joint efforts to strengthen industrial cooperation between the UAE and Japan, support the development of a new UAE-Japan blue ammonia supply chain, and follow the first sale of UAE blue ammonia cargo to ITOCHU
Fertiglobe is a 58:42 partnership between OCI and ADNOC.
It will produce blue ammonia at its Fertil plant in the Ruwais Industrial Park in Abu Dhabi and then deliver it to ADNOC's customers in Japan
.
This shipment is sold at a more attractive premium than gray ammonia, highlighting the economic advantage of blue ammonia as an emerging low-carbon energy source
Ammonia can be widely used as a low-carbon fuel in industrial fields, including transportation, power generation, oil refining, steel, wastewater treatment, cement and fertilizer production and other industries
.
Especially for Japan, hydrogen and its carrier fuel, such as blue ammonia, are expected to play an important role in the country’s ongoing industrial decarbonization efforts
