Recently, the UAE energy company-Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) sold the first batch of blue ammonia products to Japan's Itochu Corporation (Itochu), which will be used in fertilizer production
.
Fertiglobe, a joint venture between the Dutch chemical company OCI and ADNOC, will produce blue ammonia at the Fertil plant and deliver it to Japanese customers
ADNOC stated that although the ammonia produced at the Fertil plant is gray ammonia, the plant will install a carbon dioxide liquefaction unit.
The carbon dioxide will be transferred by the ADNOC Al-Reyadah carbon capture and storage plant and re-injected into the underground oil reservoir to promote blue ammonia production
.
It is reported that the UAE and ADNOC mainly focus on exporting hydrogen to Asian countries and companies
.
ADNOC also signed hydrogen supply agreements with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan and GS Energy Corporation of South Korea
