Borouge, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) and Austria's Borealis, has signed an engineering, procurement and construction contract with Maire Tecnimont Group for the engineering, procurement and construction of a fifth polypropylene (PP5) plant in Ruvais
.
Emirates news agency Wam reported that this will increase Borouge's polypropylene production capacity by 25% to 2.
24 million tons per year and provide new opportunities
to consolidate the local industry.
The new PP5 plant, with a nameplate capacity of 480,000 mt/year, will be combined with the existing Borouge 3 plant in Ruiss and is expected to come on stream
in the third quarter of 2021.
The establishment of the PP5 plant at Ruwes contributes significantly to Borouge's goal of increasing polymer production capacity by 11% to 5 million tons per year, which is closely linked
to the growth ambitions of Adnoc and Borealis to increase polymer production capacity.
The PP5 plant will be Ruyves' tenth Borstar plant, which will secure a global supply of creative polypropylene products
, building on the partnership between Adnoc and Borealis.
