The World Bank has approved a $20 million International Development Association (IDA) credit to enable Burkina Faso to expand and improve the geographic coverage of its broadband network and reduce the cost of
communication services nationwide.
In addition to the $19.
4 million already allocated to the West African Regional Communications Infrastructure Project (WARCIP), the project focuses on improving international connectivity between Ouagadougou and Ghana
.
Additional funding from the World Bank would strengthen and expand the programme, and regional integration with Benin would be an important part of
the work.
Cheick Kante, World Bank Country Manager for Burkina Faso, said: "This additional WARCIP-Burkina Faso financing should help improve the quality of Internet services in the country and help improve connectivity between Burkina Faso and the rest of the world
.
We also hope that these resources will help reduce the cost of
regional and international connectivity.
