128 sites of environmental adaptability: It is expected to cultivate broadly adaptable rice |
Recently, " Plant Biotechnology Journal " ( Plant Biotechnology Journal ) published online the latest results of the cooperation between the outstanding rice germplasm resource discovery and innovative utilization team of the Institute of Crop Science of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the International Rice Research Institute
.
Through the association analysis of 185 wild rice and 743 cultivated rice varieties, they found 128 gene loci related to rice environmental adaptability, and analyzed the genetic mechanism of environmental adaptability in the process of rice domestication.
Plant Biotechnology Journal
Researcher Yang Qingwen introduced that the rice varieties grown in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia were domesticated from its wild ancestors
.
In the process of domestication, local varieties need a series of adaptive improvements to the local environment, including photoperiod, temperature tolerance, drought and flood disaster resistance and other stress resistance
The study selected 185 wild rice and 743 cultivated rice varieties from 33 major rice-growing regions in the world, and identified 131 regions with strong selection signals
.
Subsequently, they collected the average temperature and length of sunshine in May and August of the past 68 years, conducted an association analysis between genotype and environment, and found 128 sites that were significantly related to rice environmental adaptability
The researchers named one of the cold tolerance genes COLDF, and obtained two mutants of the COLDF gene, and conducted a 4°C cold stress test
.
The results showed that these mutant seedlings were sensitive to cold stress
The research provides an adaptive genomic basis for rice domestication and improvement through the identification of genetic loci related to environmental adaptability, and is helpful for the rapid development of broadly adaptable rice varieties
